2011

2011 is a couple days away...who knew 2010 would fly so fast, subhan'Allah.  Some of us won't make it to 2011, some of us won't make it tonight.  So tell your loved ones you love them and live today like its your last.  Living in fear of what could be is not living at all, but a death all on its own.  I wish you all peace, love and blessings.  Many, many thanks for reading, whoever you are.
I wouldn't mind being here right now:

Subhan'Allah...it hit the heart.

"Whether you are fast or slow, eventually you will find what you are seeking. Always devote yourself wholeheartedly to your search. Even though you may limp or be bent double, do not abandon your search, but drag yourself ever toward Him." - Rumi
When my pain became the cause of my cure
My contempt changed into reverence
And my doubt into certainty.
I see that I have been the veil on my path.
Now my body has become my heart
My heart has become my soul
And my spirit, the eternal Spirit.

In My Life

My jam of the morning is my favorite Beatles song, "In My Life".  The lyrics are posted below...gotta love it.

There are places I remember
All my life though some have changed
Some forever not for better
Some have gone and some remain
All these places had their moments
With lovers and friends I still can recall
Some are dead and some are living
In my life I've loved them all

But of all these friends and lovers
There is no one compares with you
And these memories lose their meaning
When I think of love as something new
Though I know I'll never lose affection
For people and things that went before
I know I'll often stop and think about them
In my life I love you more

Though I know I'll never lose affection
For people and things that went before
I know I'll often stop and think about them
In my life I love you more
In my life I love you more

We write
to fight
insanity.

We write
to ignite
creativity.

We write
cuz it might
change the world.

We write
to make right
what feels wrong.

We write
despite
what they think of us.

We write
to make bright
what's dark.

We write
because we downright
give a damn.

We write
to incite
reflection.

We write
to invite
dialogue.

We write
in light
of the world.

We write
to unite
in prose.

We write
to cite
you and I.

Now those are my kind of Scrabble pieces! :)

word
Got into work this morning and have been receiving e-mails about 3 different deaths of colleagues this weekend.  Subhan'Allah.  Some of us are so busy planning on future celebrations that we forget about the present.  May we always live with love, peace and gratitude in our hearts and not take our loved ones for granted. Amen.

He writes poems on the walls of her heart
and dances to her life's tune.

In her book, he is the restless sun
and she is the tranquil moon.

She'll keep turning her heart's pages,
giving more room for prose.

But someday soon the book shall end,
when that is, nobody knows.

It slipped away,
slipped away.
Moving on to another day.

Wouldn't stay,
wouldn't stay.
I've got to find some other way.

Did all I could do,
wouldn't you,
if you thought that it was true?

Won't live a lie,
gonna run and fly,
no longer wondering why.

Where I wish I could be right now:

LOVE this thing!  While at a gathering, I was drawn to this curious-looking frog.  It's a musical instrument where you use the stick to tap the back of the frog (on the ridges) or to run the stick along the ridges to create an awesome sound.  I had to take a pic of my newfound interest...I have to get one now!

Such a spiritually deep movie...You gotta check it out.  It's one of my (if not all-time) favorite movies.

Expands the heart in so many ways, subhan'Allah.

Let it snow, let it snow, let it snow....
Little Boy grew up with knots in his head,
he didn't do what the Big Man said.

Big Man didn’t speak with words, but fists instead,
Little Boy drank bottles of tears unshed.

Little Boy slept with a gun by his bed,
He said “No more hits”.
Now the Big Man’s dead.

I was in the garden in the morning, gathering roses
And all the time I was afraid that the gardener would see me.
The gardener, however, only spoke these kind words:
‘A few roses are nothing as I give you the complete garden’

THE INTEREST WITHOUT THE CAPITAL - Rumi

The lover's food is the love of the bread;
no bread need be at hand:
no one who is sincere in his love is a slave to existence.

Lovers have nothing to do with with with existence;
lovers have the interest without the capital.

Without wings they fly around the world;
without hands they carry the polo ball off the field.

That dervish who caught the scent of Reality
used to weave basket even though his hand had been cut off.

Lovers have pitched their tents in nonexistence:
they are of one quality and one essence, as nonexistence is.
"People are like stained-glass windows.
The true beauty can be seen only when there is light from within."

"Between one person and another, there is only light."
What happens when your soul
Begins to awaken
Your eyes
And your heart
And the cells of your body
To the great Journey of Love?

First there is wonderful laughter
And probably precious tears

And a hundred sweet promises
And those heroic vows
No one can ever keep.

But still God is delighted and amused
You once tried to be a saint.

What happens when your soul
Begins to awake in this world

To our deep need to love
And serve the Friend?

O the Beloved
Will send you
One of His wonderful, wild companions ~
Like Hafiz.
-Hafiz-

Turn your back on those
Who would imprison your wondrous spirit
With deceit and lies.

Come, join the courageous
Who have no choice
But to bet their entire world
That indeed,
Indeed, God is Real.

That Everything,
Everything in Existence
Does point to God.
-Hafez-

But ignorant men dominate women,
for they are shackled by the ferocity of animals.

Jus' sayin...

Ahmad Zahir - Ay Paadeshaa E Khoban (Oh, King of Beauty)

I must say, of all the songs sang by Ahmad Zahir, this one pulls my heart-strings
more than the others.  The lyrics are heavy...very heavy...full of beauty.  Not to be silly,
but this song is so good it makes me wanna slap myself (it's that good).  But on a serious note, the lyrics are like no other, the instruments are beautiful, it's just great overall.  Find the lyrics online if you can.  I'd try translating it, but my translation wouldn't do it any justice.  If you end up not finding it, let me know.  I'll translate to the best of my poor ability. I tried writing out the chorus for the little that I know.

Oh King of Beauty,
Oh King of Beauty,
I wail from the pain of loneliness,
Without you, I can't go on (my heart will die)
It is time for you to return to me.
Oh King of Beauty.

Lyrics:
Ay paadeshah-e khoobaan
Ay paadeshah-e khoobaan
daad az gham-e tanhaayee
Del bay tu ba jaan aamad
waqt ast-u ke baaz aayee
Ay paadeshah-e khoobaan.

Ay dard-e to-am darmaan dar bestar-e naakaami
Wai yaad-e to-am mo'nes dar gosha-e tanhaayee

Dayeem gul-e een bostaan shaadaab-u namaimaanad
Daryaab za'aeefaan raa dar waqt-e tawaanaayee

Pomegranate Kisses

Sitting in this garden,
wondering what is to be,
you sit with me silently,
under the Pomegranate Tree.

My love stains with just one touch
as berry red as can be,
so come in your white dress and let's dance
under the Pomegranate Tree.

Let's read to each other in the moonlight
and whisper secrets by the sea
and end each night in slumber
under the Pomegranate Tree.

100 years from now,
if I shall be blessed enough to be free,
I'll meet you in the garden at night
under the Pomegranate Tree.

Sultan - E- Qalbam
(The Sultan (King) of Hearts)

on the one hand, i want to go, to go
on the other hand, i don't want to go
I don't have the strength
what can i do without you

with beautiful love
the world is very small
i'm with the memory of you everywhere, everywhere
so i don't abandon you

you are the king of my heart
you broke down all the doors to my soul (or heart)
you have tied my heart with love
you bound me with you

Now if I'm anywhere far from you
I can't bind my heart to another
i'm overflowing with hope and desire
oh beautiful lover

Googoosh

Love this song...I grew up listening to it because Mama Dukes always played it.
It's the first persian song I learned all the words to because it sounded so beautiful.
Look up the translation...it's amazing.

I pluck many a heart-strings, but none can play my tune.

one of my many disclaimers in life

Love Came Here

There is no end to this story
No final blow, or glory
Love came here and never left

Now that my heart is open
It can't be closed or broken
Love came here and never left

Now I’ll have to live with loving you forever
Although our days of living life together
Of living life together are over

There's nothing here to throw away
I came to you in light of day
And love came here and never left

Like A Moth To A Flame

Don’t come close,
You will burn
like the other moths have
in turn.

This flame is an illusion
Nothing more.
Something I’ve drawn,
Something you think worth dying for.

Maybe it’s real,
Maybe it’s not,
Beware,
This fire burns way too hot.

Consider this warning,
You won’t survive.
Keep your distance,
Remain alive.

This flame
Is nothing but a trap
that calls out to you.
Understand,
 I am trapped too.

XVII (I do not love you) - Pablo Neruda

I do not love you as if you were salt-rose, or topaz,
or the arrow of carnations the fire shoots off.
I love you as certain dark things are to be loved,
in secret, between the shadow and the soul.

I love you as the plant that never blooms
but carries in itself the light of hidden flowers;
thanks to your love a certain solid fragrance,
risen from the earth, lives darkly in my body.

I love you without knowing how, or when, or from where.
I love you straightforwardly, without complexities or pride;
so I love you because I know no other way

than this: where I does not exist, nor you,
so close that your hand on my chest is my hand,
so close that your eyes close as I fall asleep.

When I was a kid, they'd ask me how much I loved them.  "Bigger than the moon, the sky, the ocean, the sand and all the buildings.  Bigger than this (arms spread open as wide as possible, fingers stretched)...I love you bigger than the whole wide world."

I miss that.
I miss that type of love.
I miss those type of questions and
I miss having someone care enough about how much I love them to ask me.

"They keep saying the right person will come along, I think mine got hit by a truck.”

word.

life

Simply complicated,
Desperately infatuated,
So underrated,
Over-estimated,
Taken for granted, unappreciated
Don’t want to wait it
may be late but
it ate away
at me, made me say
“oui”,
don’t sail away
we live today,
be as it may,
there is no other way,
we’ve got to pay
for what we do,
I’m living life just as you do,
Got my eye on where I’m going to,
Amongst the falsehood we know what’s true,
We’re here in a web of MEs and YOUs,
The others too,
Seeing red, breathing green, living blue,
Let’s see with light and pick the concrete's rose that grew,
Wanting more,
What are we living for?
Stop knocking hopelessly, I’ve opened the door,
Who know’s what’s in store, it’s gotta give,
Come on in and let’s freakin’ live.
-maryam noori-

This one sounds like me too...I guess when some close people to you pass away, you realize how short life is...I don't like going to sleep upset at someone or leave issues unresolved, because you never know if you'll ever get the chance to resolve it tomorrow.  There's no feeling worse than guilt or regret after someone has passed, and life is too raw and real to think we will live for a long time.  Our time could be up today, whether its driving home and getting into an accident or our heart stopping. Wish more of us realized this sooner than later.  This is why I'll always be direct about my feelings and thoughts, not interested in "shoulda woulda couldas".

Look with your heart,
not with your eyes--
only then will you know me.
-mn-
He fed my soul,
clenched my heart
and enraptured my mind.

I listen quietly in the garden of words.
That's all I can do.

My gaze will never be seen,
for it is hidden beneath the folds of my heart.

I swim in the ocean of expression,
still, thirsty for more.

Hit me with another line.

This is what poetry does to me.
-maryamnoori-
an old poem of mine:

"Listening to the rain pour
reminds me how I rain love for you.
You fill your cup
and walk away.

The next time you get thirsty,
I'll be here to serve.

When it rains, it pours,
Always ask for more,
I'm here,
a thunderstorm of love for you."
